Hooray for my new web hosts, The Protagonist!

  • We shall reorganize into the first Galactic Empire for a safe and secure society

Bear with me while I’m making some much needed changes to the Blog. I’ve switch hosting companies, so hopefully, trackback pings will work, now. Also, I’ll soon be starting a conspiracy theory wiki.

Also, I have yet to re-import all the old entries and comments. That will be happening tonight, probably. I’m pretty sure the new host hasn’t propagated, yet, but soon it shall. Hopefully, I’ll have all the old entries up before the new IP address gets propagated.

  • Decisions, Decisions

I’m having a hard time deciding what I want my blog to focus on. I thought at first it would just be a hodge podge of whatever I wanted to rant about. Now, I’m thinking I want to focus on just one area. I can’t decide what area that should be, though.

Politics. I’m always thinking and reading about politics and political issues. Man is a political creature.

Video Games. The video game industry is very intriguing. Started by a bunch of hackers and engineering students in dark campus basements, in my lifetime it has grown in a multi-billion dollar industry. Right now, in the video game industry there seems to be a constant battle between those who are most like the original game designers. People who desire interesting gameplay, fascinating stories, and visual masterpieces that are some of the best video games made. (Half-Life 2, Katamari Damacy, Knights of the Old Republic) Set against the heroes of the industry are a hardened cabal of marketing people that subscribe to the view “game design for profit, not necessarily fun”. EA being the prime example.

So, I guess I should decide what subject I want to focus on.

Or maybe I just won’t focus on either, yet. Maybe I’m not ready to make that decision.

    Sigh.

In the meantime I think I’m going to switch web hosts. The current web host seems to be completely unable to allow outgoing trackback pings from Movable Type. There’s all sorts of posts I would like to trackback and comment on, but I can’t because the tech support guys at my company just can’t quite figure things out. They’ve been working on it for like 3 months. Well, sorry guys. Time to say buh-bye to you.

  • TopOfCool’s Inaugural Address

Welcome to TopOfCool.com. Originally, this was going to be a website dedicated to anime reviews. Well, the site sat here for about a year and nothing happened. So, I’ve decided to set up a movable type installation and start publishing a blog. Everyone’s doing it I suppose.

My main impetus for starting this up has been passionate feelings on various subjects, especially politics. I am what many would consider “conservative.” I actually support the War in Iraq and think that the President is doing the right thing over there. That seems to be a rebellious view these days, with many Bush supporters even saying things like, “I like Dubya. I just don’t know if this Iraq thing is being handled well.” I may post more thoughts on this later.

I’m also an avid U2 fan, and have been covering the escapades of Bono. I’ve been especially interested in his AIDS work in Africa. I think he genuinely wants to help and unlike many African issues activists, is actually doing substantive things to try and help the situation there. This is probably due to what I consider the strangest thing of all: world leaders are actually listening to him. I do have a few issues with Bono’s plans, however. I’ll probably be discussing that in the weeks to come.

Yes, I have been known to play video games from time to time. Yes, I tried to sit through the SpikeTV Video Game Awards. And yes, I only made it through about 30 minutes before wanting to kick myself. It was awful. I don’t really need to say much more than that. It’s already been said.

Well, stick around. You might be in for a wild ride at TopOfCool.com. We’ll see what happens…
